Artists of the Huon Valley
A Celebration of Regional Creativity at Salamanca Art Centre
A vibrant collective of fourteen artists from Tasmania’s Huon Valley will come together this September for a dynamic group exhibition at the Long Gallery, Salamanca Arts Centre. The Artists of the Huon Valley showcases the breadth and diversity of artistic practice thriving in one of the state’s most creatively rich regions.
Running from 10–21 September in The Long Gallery, the exhibition brings together painters, photographer, ceramicist, weavers, furniture makers and sculptors, offering audiences an engaging cross-section of contemporary work inspired by the Huon Valley’s landscapes, communities, and creative spirit.
Exhibiting artists are Heather Crisp, Henrietta Manning, Richard Stanley, Anna Arden-Wong, Catherine Morris, Gabrielle Nicholl, Emma Coombes, Libby Dyer, Joanna Lawton, Lysbeth Driessen, Ruth Lindsell, Daren Lindsell, Donna Kelly, and Kerri Jacobson.
Together, these artists present a compelling dialogue between form, texture, colour, and place-ranging from evocative landscapes and intimate still life works to bold abstractions and finely crafted objects.
This exhibition also offers a preview of the region’s creative energy ahead of the annual Huon Valley Studio Arts Trail, held at the end of October. Visitors inspired by the exhibition are encouraged to explore the Trail and experience firsthand the studios, processes, and environments that shape these artists’ work.
Artists of the Huon Valley celebrates not only individual artistic voices but also the strength of collaboration within a regional arts community. It is an invitation to discover, connect, and be inspired.

My name is Libby Dyer, a self-taught Intuitive Artist.
I have recently moved to the beautiful town of Huonville, about 35 minutes south of Hobart in Tasmania.
Before this I resided on the Gold Coast for over 20 years.
My artwork channels many of my emotions, feelings and memories.
I choose to live in colour and express this in my work,
sharing as much positivity as possible, forming long-lasting connections.

The spontaneity and unpredictability of alcohol ink and how it forms and separates into different cells, is what exhilarates me as well as hoping to tame my sense of wanting to organise and control. This medium instills in me a true passion and complete acceptance of oneself. It transports me to a world of vibrancy, fun and exploration. Deep down I believe we all have creative expression. This is my passion, my release and myself raw. I create on either canvas or yupo paper of varying sizes. I at times mix it up and add other mediums of acrylic paint, spray paint, pens and other inks. These are my humble beginnings as an emerging artist.

My art hopes to embrace a very positive, energetic and fluid art making process. I view my work as intuitive which resonates in me and my audience a very emotional and physical expression of my feelings and surroundings. I am inspired by the sounds of nature, the ever changing and majestic views of oceans, landscapes and skies and my evolving connections with them. My recent body work concentrates on the practice of mindfulness, planting the seeds of joy and happiness for our tomorrow’s. In support and awareness of mental health, I wish to connect to those who need a little bit of positivity in their lives.
